IT BEGINS Shadows become the larger than life images of our tribe They are reflected high onto the canyon walls The sound of the single drum beckons us on The ancient ones echo back in response to our journey Our skin covered feet matching the deep rhythm of the drums As this drummer begins to sing in holy tongue We climb higher and higher to our hallowed destination We walk the mountain trail that we are so familiar with With our torches held high into the cool nights air We journey to the distant kiva Our holy place Our ceremonial cave Our secret escape Here we will share our hopes and our dreams for our lives We are a strong people We are a gentle people We are a ferocious people The music grows louder as our journey nears its end We descend down the wooden ladders and into the ancient pit As we sit in our circle of light We pray We sing We share Like the story tellers of old We are the tellers The tale begins It is important to know the past It gives us the strength to face the future Remember those bends in our journeys path the critical turning points that made us who we are --Kimba Copyright,1999 joee_elixir@yahoo.com

STONES OF LIFE

Fire My eyes filled with you that day, hiding the mountain. You are my friend, that became my enemy for a time. The anger in your face frightened me and caused my tears to fall. At that moment, I knew. I knew... I told friends of your anger. They tried to reassure me. They told me to be calm. You laughed as we tried to control you. Waiting. You are the sleeping giant. As your fury grew you growled low, "Little gods... trying to control me!!" You laughed. The sleeping was over. Your wrath appeared in the horizon like a mighty thunder cloud growing higher into the heavens. You hid the mountains and the valleys from my view, with your tremendous size. You became hungry with rage and began your frenzied feast. White smoke turned brown, then black as hot, red, ambers filled the darkened sky. Running, dancing, and laughing from the tree tops you consumed everything. No human could control you now. You revealed your power until you bored of the feast, leaving behind blackened sticks, chalky ashes, and flowing tears. "How dare they try to stop the balance." you said as you slowly sank back to your mother of earth. As smart as humans become they will never be able to control the forces of the mother. --Kimba Copyright, May 2000

** Desperation ** The fire of the muscles, splitting; I bow my head to accommodate the pain. "It is the wings that grow," I say, "These pin feathers hold only torturous promises." "You know this." "You shall not fly on these." I consciously spread the new bright life; I cannot rip these wings. I cannot. --Carl Richard Sutherland II-- Copyright,1999

"on a mirror's end" her hair fell round her image like red velvet eyes of innocence glimmering in the moonlight my princess, an angel swore to be divine embraced my lips, my intoxicating wine her sensual smile invoked the sun to rise curves made threads of tires grind love's enchantress, dancing on a line of light, scratching flesh like pine provoke me to surrender one last kiss upon my fair lady's tender, dying lips my lover, enraptured with poisoned heart agonized soul, piecing like a dart looking at her is a mystical mirror where all my terror shall appear. cursed maiden, hides in me her unknown self, a mindless toy shattered on my shelf destiny rings through her spilled blood tears are echoed through my mutated love silken river, did you not know my life died here? her blood was my strife. her love was my knife her tears were my wife yet they all end here... --FAWN Copyright,1999

-words Your words speak directly to my heart breaking down a wall that has taken me my lifetime to construct Your gentle words stir that which is innocent in me. Touching my heart strings causing me to look deeply inside. Remembering the girl that I once used to be. When holding hands with a boy sent shivers down my spine and love songs made me long for a knight to carry me away. This is the part of me that somehow you can see. But, I am afraid to tear my "so good" wall down. Afraid of you looking at naked me. How can I allow access To this side of me Love, Jodi Copyright,1999

When words become ointment that sooth a tattered soul When the melody of children singing and playing fills When storms pass and rainbows arch high with their hues When fathers hold mothers small hand tender When people look at faces without fear When the garden is seen without weed When? -Kimba Copyright: July 16, 2001
